Oxygen Core Dual Pot

Our 3.75" Oxygen Core Dual™ Pot brings a new level of logic to growing orchids in pots. It is the little brother (sister) to our 4.25" Oxygen Core Dual but with a raised inner dome. Like the 4", it is a two part pot with several innovations brought together to create a perfect environment for growing. The outer pot is clear but stiff walled and allows for maximum light to enter. It is domed in the center and raised up on the inside for air flow and drainage. There are 14 distinct openings in the bottom for water to escape and oxygen to enter. The exterior also has 4 square open ports that serve as channels for water to drain away.

The inner core pot is a net pot which fits down into the outer pot which has a raised center dome creating an air gap between the pots.

The result of all these features is to create a growing environment that enhances humidity in the space between the two pots on the sides and at the bottom. Air flow is significantly improved which reduces potential root rot while increasing humidity. A further advantage of this design is that it contains the roots inside the pot by encouraging root growth "around and down" rather than over the top of the rim. Oxygen is key to happy roots and the Oxygen Core Dual Pot from rePotme is one special pot for your prized plants to thrive in.

We recommend watching the roots so that they don't become tangled between the two pots. Once the roots become well established and protrude through the inner net pot, we like to then remove the plant from the inner pot and place it in the outer shell for longer term growth. We think of the inner pot as a kind of training wheels set-up for orchids that need the optimum development environment. We don't want to leave the "training wheels" in place too long once the desired development has taken place which could result in an unnecessary challenge to free the roots at repotting time. Freeing roots can be done by snipping the inner net pot (preferably not the roots!). Replacement inner net pots and outer shells are available in all sizes.

Your Oxygen Core Dual Pots are amazing. I've been using them for about 18 months now and have had extordinary results. I first used them on a phal seedling. I had two that were identical. Within a few months the plant in the oxygen core pot had several healthy new roots and the plant had doubled in size compared to the plant in the plastic orchid pot. I then tried them on 2 miltonias with identical results. The miltonia in that pot has been blooming for nearly a month now and according to the grower I purchased both plants from, shouldn't have bloomed for another 6 Months...no kidding! I'm also using those oxygen pots for my paph sanderianums which I haven't done well with in the past, but after repoting them in the oxygen core pot they are thriving. All of your products are exceptional but these pots set a new standard...they help me grow a healthier plant that matures and blooms faster and can't be over-watered. Q: What should I do when roots come through openings in the pot (Net, Slotted, Oxygen Core etc.)?

A: Orchids are notorious for sending roots every different which way. That's not so surprising since orchids growing in the wild are free to extend their roots in search of moisture, food, support and light. There are a few schools of thought on how best to deal with adventurous roots. For example, with Net pots one can snip away the pot if needed when the time comes, and another is to move the plant up to the next size before the roots get too established working through the net material. Slotted pots can be similarly cut or snipped away from roots when the time comes to repot or it is necessary to move the plant up or out of its existing container.

Oxygen Core Dual Pots create a very favorable growing environment and root growth is likely to be quite vigorous soon after potting in them. One can use the inner pot until the roots start to expand and then remove the plant from it and place it back into the outer shell (kind of like taking training wheels off a child's bike).

Vigorous healthy root growth is a good thing, and supports an overall happy and healthy orchid that will produce strong leaves and beautiful flowers. Managing the repotting process so plants are able to develop a strong and expanding root zone is an important part of the equation.
