Hosta thrive in moist, well-drained, organically rich soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Sandy loam is ideal, offering better root aeration than heavy clay. For the healthiest growth, plant Hosta in high-filtered or dappled light—they tolerate morning sun, which can enhance leaf color, but hot afternoon sun can scorch or kill them. These shade-loving perennials are perfectly suited for woodland gardens and work beautifully as specimens or border plants.
