Coconut Husk Chips - Shredded - Scoop

Shredded Coconut Husk Chips are really unique and interesting. This is a new medium we are carrying that is fluffy and fibrous and retains water well. Shredded Coconut Husk Chips are often confused with Coir which is actually a much finer ground coconut husk. These shredded chips are not chunky but they are stringy and create an open media.

They are softer than chips are, easy to water and slower than bark to break down, remaining open and airy longer. This characteristic is of particular importance to those growing in tropical conditions. This medium mixes well with other ingredients and can be used as a component to create a wide variety of orchid mixes. It absorbs water well and holds it like a sponge releasing it as the roots drink. The shredded coconut husk chips come to us prewashed and pressed. We then take the material and soak, filter, wash and clean it as many times as is necessary to be sure the finished product is in the best possible condition for our use and for yours.
