Lady Friend Iris
Description
We begin shipping all Iris from mid-late July and continue through early to mid-November. If your order includes a bareroot iris, the entire order will be held until all items are ready to ship together. Please note, we do not split shipments.
IRIS 'Lady Friend'. Tall Bearded. Early Spring bloom. 36" tall. Reblooming. Fragrant. This rare garnet-rose iris stands in a color class by itself. An orange beard accents the multi-chromatic flower. Hints of yellow/orange at its throat adds additional depth. Equally important, both the freedom of bloom and excellent growth habit often give a single plant several stems per year. Drought tolerant, highly resistant to deer and rabbits, very attractive to butterflies! Zones 3-10. #1 grade, bareroot rhizome. Awards: Awards of Merit, Honorable Mention.
For best flowering, they prefer a full day of sun but can still perform well with at least half a day. The most important factor for success is excellent drainage—these irises will not tolerate soggy soil, which can cause the rhizomes to rot. They grow well in any quality garden soil, as long as it drains well. Space plants 12–18 inches apart for good airflow and room to spread. Rhizomes should be planted just below the surface, with the tops barely covered to prevent rot. Irises are heavy feeders and benefit from fertilizing three times per year: in early spring, right after bloom, and in fall, using a low- or no-nitrogen fertilizer like 0-10-10 when planting or transplanting. Some cultivars may vary in size at shipping.
