Rock Star Iris
Description
We begin shipping all Iris from mid-late July and continue through early to mid-November. If your order includes a bareroot iris, the entire order will be held until all items are ready to ship together. Please note, we do not split shipments.
Iris 'Rock Star'. Tall Bearded. Early-mid Spring bloom. 30" tall. Reblooming. Ruffled pale apricot falls are heavily banded and overlaid with rich raspberry-rose plicata markings, the same color of the standards. Beards are red orange with speckled red violet horns. Drought tolerant, highly resistant to deer and rabbits, very attractive to butterflies! Some cultivars will be larger than others at shipping. Zones 3-10. #1 grade, bareroot rhizome. Awards: Honorable Mention.
For best flowering, they prefer a full day of sun but can still perform well with at least half a day. The most important factor for success is excellent drainage—these irises will not tolerate soggy soil, which can cause the rhizomes to rot. They grow well in any quality garden soil, as long as it drains well. Space plants 12–18 inches apart for good airflow and room to spread. Rhizomes should be planted just below the surface, with the tops barely covered to prevent rot. Irises are heavy feeders and benefit from fertilizing three times per year: in early spring, right after bloom, and in fall, using a low- or no-nitrogen fertilizer like 0-10-10 when planting or transplanting. Some cultivars may vary in size at shipping.
