Bushes Ruby Slippers Oakleaf Hydrangea - HYDRANGEA q. 'Ruby Slippers'. 3 ½' tall, 4-5' spread, full sun-part shade, midsummer-early fall bloom. Robust cone-shaped panicles open white, quickly turning pink before maturing to ruby red. Dark green foliage turns a brilliant shade of mahogany red in the fall. Blooms on old wood. Deer and rabbit resisitant. Zones 5-9. Potted in 1 quart pot.
Hydrangea quercifolia, better known as oakleaf hydrangea known for its large, cone-shaped white blooms and distinctive oak-like foliage that turns rich shades of red and bronze in fall. Blooms are produced on old wood, so prune right after flowering once new shoots have formed at the base. Avoid heavy pruning in spring, as it may remove next season’s buds. Deadhead spent blooms to maintain a tidy shape and encourage new growth. Remove weak or damaged stems as needed. Prefers moist, well-drained soil and partial shade.
